Political Divisiveness & The Media

Sep 12, 2024

As we approach the US Presidential Election, we have choices about what we consume, how we behave and what we allow to float across our mind.  Some people say we are a nation more divided than ever before.  If you weren't watching debates, rallies and speeches, what would you know about this election cycle?

How do we balance making informed decisions against putting our heads in the sand and shutting it all down?  Are we turning it off because it's become a sort of traumatic social event?

Do you vote based on policy and action or on personality and party?  Dig Deep here.

What do you think about those who are on the opposite side of the political spectrum?  Do you mentally put them off to the side and disengage or do you go to battle for your perspective?  Do you like who you become when you make this choice?  Are you complicit by not speaking up or are you protecting your peace and sanity?  Do you value your privacy or sing your political thoughts from the top of the biggest hill?

Intrinsically, there is no right or wrong answer but there are consequences of our 1 vote and what we put out into the world.  We may need thick skin to gear up and let the digital rage roll off our backs.  Are we open to new thoughts and ideas or deeply entrenched in our values and beliefs.

When we recognize the 50/50 concept is always in play, we can see the positive and negative in all things.  Ultimately, we get to choose how we show up and who we become during election season and in all seasons of life.

Remember, the job of the media is to sell products.  And in many cases the product is you.

Be mindful.
