The Importance of Taking Our Digital Inventory

A digital detox begins with an honest inventory. Like the 4th Step in a 12 Step program. Spend a week documenting everywhere you consume. On every app, platform, and by every method. Are you consuming multiple social media apps such as Facebook and Instagram - on your cell, laptop, desktop and ipad? Are you a grazer in the buffet line of Reddit and X? Or are you all in on your main digital companion? There is so much to investigate, and we can't really make lasting changes until we measure where we are today. Its digital calorie counting, if you will. How much time do you spend online? Our attention is the currency of the modern day. Once you know where your attention goes, you get to make conscious decisions to limit consumption and set boundaries for yourself. Never against yourself - always FOR yourself. Set time limits on apps, unfollow accounts that don’t serve you, and create mindful tech-use rituals to help you stay present. By becoming aware of the ways in which technology steals your attention, you empower yourself to take action and reclaim your time. I believe that if you want your mind and freedom back you can do it! Remember to look up and create meaningful connections in the real world.
